It centers on the question of what factors influenced the public’s choices in selecting burial sites. The research aims to analyze the practices and determining elements behind these decisions, emphasizing the roles of religious, traditional, and social considerations, as well as the individual’s status. Drawing on local historical chronicles (tawārīkh-i maḥallī) and biographical works (kutub-i rijāl) as primary sources, the study employs a qualitative, analytical-descriptive methodology to investigate patterns of interment in Iranian society during this period. The findings indicate that while the general population was typically buried in public cemeteries, elite figures-including political authorities and scholars-were often interred in distinct settings such as private residences, madrasas, mosques, khānqāhs, gardens, palaces, and government buildings (dār al-imārah). The analysis underscores how a variety of influences-ranging from religious beliefs and political conditions to social hierarchy and class identity-shaped burial practices. These insights contribute to a deeper understanding of the cultural and societal frameworks prevailing in Iran throughout the Islamic era prior to the Mongol incursion. این پژوهش به‌ارزیابی مکان‌های دفن مردگان در شهرهای بزرگ ایران از آغاز دوران اسلامی تا زمان حملة مغول، با تمرکز بر این پرسش اصلی که انتخاب این مکان‌ها از سوی مردم تحت چه تأثیراتی بوده، می‌پردازد. پژوهش حاضر با هدف واکاوی رویه‌ها و عوامل تعیین‌کننده در انتخاب مکان‌های دفن و تبیین تاثیرات دینی، سنتی، اجتماعی و جایگاه فردی بر این انتخاب‌ها صورت گرفته است. با مروری بر مراجع تاریخ محلی و آثار رجالی به‌مثابة منابع اصلی، این تحقیق به‌روش کیفی و رویکرد تحلیلی-توصیفی، الگوهای دفن در جامعة ایرانی طی این دوره را بررسی می‌کند. یافته‌ها نشان دادند که محل دفن عامة مردم در گورستان‌های عمومی بوده و شخصیت‌های سرشناس، مانند رجال سیاسی-حکومتی و دانشمندان افزون بر آن، در مکان‌های خاص مانند منازل شخصی، مدارس، مساجد، خانقاه‌ها، بستان‌ها، کاخ‌ها و دارالاماره‌ها به‌خاک سپرده می‌شدند. تحلیل این داده‌ها بر این واقعیت تأکید دارد که عوامل متنوعی چون باورهای دینی، مسائل سیاسی و اجتماعی و هویت‌بخشی طبقاتی، در انتخاب مکان‌های دفن مؤثر بوده‌اند. همچنین در نتیجه‌گیری، این یافته‌ها به ما امکان می‌دهند تا از ساختارهای فرهنگی و اجتماعی حاکم بر جامعة ایرانِ دوران مورد مطالعه، درک عمیق‌تری داشته باشیم. https://jhic.ut.ac.ir/article_100904_929da6baed2ca68ceb0effbad2db5994.pdf
